Note: I picked these products from their official spec sheets, not from my own use. This guide has no paid links right now. If I add affiliate links later, I will say so here.
You can get decent wireless earbuds for under $50 now. You can also get earbuds that hurt your ears, drop the connection and die in three months. The difference is usually on the spec sheet, if you know what to look for.
In this guide I explain the specs that matter in simple words, and I compare four real models using their brand pages. I have not tried these earbuds myself. Everything I say about them is what the spec sheet says, not my own listening.
First: What Will You Use Them For?
- Calls: look at the mics and call noise reduction.
- Music on the bus or in traffic: look for ANC (active noise cancellation).
- Gym or rain: look at the IP rating.
- Long days away from a charger: look at battery life with the case.
- Small ears: look at earbud weight and how many ear tip sizes come in the box.
The Specs That Matter, in Plain Words
ENC vs ANC
These two sound alike but do different jobs.
- ENC (environmental noise cancellation) cleans up your voice on calls, so the other person hears less background noise. It does not make your music quieter around you.
- ANC (active noise cancellation) reduces the noise you hear, like engine hum or a fan. It is rarer at low prices.
Many cheap listings say “noise cancelling” when they only mean ENC for calls. Check which one.
Bluetooth version
Newer versions like 5.3 or 5.4 are common now. A newer version is nice, but it matters less than fit and battery. Your phone also has to support it to get any benefit.
Codecs
SBC is the basic one every phone supports. AAC works well with iPhones. Budget earbuds rarely go beyond these, and that is fine for most people.
Battery: earbuds alone vs with the case
Brands print the total with the case, like “30 hours”. The more useful number is how long the earbuds last on one charge, because that is how long you can listen without a break.
IP rating
- IPX4: splashes and sweat.
- IPX5: water jets, so better for heavy sweat or rain.
- IP54: the “5” means some dust protection too, and the “4” means splashes.
None of these means you can swim with them.
Fit Is the Most Important Thing
If earbuds hurt after 30 minutes, nothing else matters. A good seal also makes the bass sound much better. Check that the box has small, medium and large ear tips, and try all three. If one ear feels loose, use a different size for that ear.
4 Real Earbuds Under $50, Compared on Paper
| Model | Battery (buds / with case) | Bluetooth | Noise control | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| soundcore P20i | 10 h / 30 h | 5.3 | 2 mics with AI for calls, no ANC | IPX5 |
| JLab GO Air POP | 8+ h / 32+ h | 5.1 | ENC mic for calls, no ANC | IPX4 |
| Redmi Buds 6 Active | 6 h / 30 h | 5.4 | Dual-mic call noise reduction, no ANC | IPX4 (earbuds only) |
| CMF Buds 2a | 8 h / 35.5 h (ANC off) | 5.4 | 42 dB ANC + transparency | IP54 |
soundcore P20i
From soundcore, Anker’s audio brand. The brand page lists 10 mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3, 10 hours of playtime on the earbuds and 30 hours with the case, IPX5, and 2 mics with AI for calls. A 10-minute charge gives 2 hours, according to soundcore. The app has 22 EQ presets. Reviews note it has no ANC and no multipoint, so it connects to one device at a time.
JLab GO Air POP
One of the cheapest real options from a known brand. JLab lists 8+ hours per charge, 32+ hours total, Bluetooth 5.1, SBC and AAC codecs, IPX4, and very light earbuds at 3.7 g each. The box has 3 sizes of gel tips, which helps with fit. The case has a built-in USB-A cable. JLab’s site also notes that this model has been upgraded to a newer version (GO POP+), so you may see both.
Redmi Buds 6 Active
Xiaomi lists a large 14.2 mm driver, Bluetooth 5.4, 6 hours on the earbuds and 30 hours with the case, dual-mic call noise reduction, IPX4 for the earbuds (not the case), and 4 g per earbud. There are 5 EQ settings in the Xiaomi Earbuds app. The single-charge time is the shortest in this list, so think about that if you listen for long stretches.
CMF Buds 2a
The only model here with real ANC. Nothing’s CMF brand lists 42 dB active noise cancellation with transparency mode, a 12.4 mm driver, 4 mics, IP54, and up to 8 hours on the earbuds (35.5 hours with the case) with ANC off. Nothing’s support page says battery drops to about 23 hours with the case when ANC is on. If you commute on loud roads, this is the one to look at first.
Which One for Which Person?
- Noisy commute: CMF Buds 2a (ANC).
- Gym and sweat: soundcore P20i (IPX5).
- Smallest budget and small ears: JLab GO Air POP (light buds, 3 tip sizes).
- Big bass on paper: Redmi Buds 6 Active (14.2 mm driver). Driver size does not guarantee good sound, though.
Buying in Pakistan: Price, Warranty and Fakes
All four models were listed under $50 in at least one official store when I checked in October 2026, but prices change often, so I have not listed Pakistani prices. Compare the official brand store (if there is one here), Daraz Mall and trusted shops on the day you buy. Popular earbuds are copied a lot. Signs of a fake:
- The price is much lower than every other seller.
- The earbuds do not connect to the brand’s official app (soundcore, Xiaomi Earbuds, Nothing X).
- The box has spelling mistakes or no model number.
Also ask who gives the warranty, the brand or the shop.
What to Check Before You Buy (Checklist)
- Do I need ANC, or only ENC for calls?
- How long do the earbuds last on one charge (not just with the case)?
- What is the IP rating? Is it enough for sweat or rain?
- How many ear tip sizes are in the box?
- Does it work with my phone (Android or iPhone) and the brand’s app?
- Is the seller official or trusted? Is the warranty from the brand?
- Can I return them if they do not fit?
FAQ
Are cheap earbuds good for calls?
Some are fine for calls in a quiet room. In traffic, look for more mics and call noise reduction. Do not expect perfect calls on a motorbike.
Is ANC worth paying more for?
If you travel on loud roads or work near a noisy fan or generator, yes. In a quiet room, probably not.
Does a bigger driver mean better sound?
Not by itself. Fit and tuning matter more. A good seal often changes the bass more than driver size.
Can I swim with IPX5 earbuds?
No. IPX5 is for sweat and water jets, not swimming.
